Appointment-day planning
Should You Arrive the Day Before a Bakirkoy Hospital Appointment?
If you are coming from out of town and your appointment is early in the morning, arriving the day before and staying one night within walking distance of the hospital is often the calmest plan. Bus delays, flight delays or morning traffic can make you late for an appointment; arriving a night early greatly reduces that risk.
Same-day arrival is also possible for an afternoon appointment. The decision depends on how you are arriving and the time of your appointment.
When does arriving a day early make sense?
| Appointment time | Where you are coming from | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Early morning | Another city, by bus or plane | Arrive the day before |
| Early morning | A distant district of Istanbul | Consider arriving the day before if traffic risk is high |
| Afternoon | By a flight landing early in the morning | Same-day arrival is possible; leave extra time |
| Several days (tests, results, check-up) | No matter where from | Plan a stay that covers all the days |
Find out from your hospital which day and time you need to be there and when a result will be ready. Setting the length of your stay around that schedule avoids an extra night or a last-minute rush to extend.
For a one- or two-night appointment trip, one person or a patient and one relative will be comfortable in a Studio apartment (1+0); if there are three of you, a One-bedroom apartment (1+1) with a separate bedroom is more suitable.
The evening before the appointment
- Check-in: Check-in is from 14:00. If you will arrive earlier, ask about early check-in in advance; it depends on availability. If you will arrive late at night, tell us your time in advance. The building has an elevator, so you can easily reach the floors with a suitcase or a patient tired from the journey.
- Walk the route: Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital is a 15-minute walk from our address, and Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital is a 22-minute walk. Walking the route once in the evening makes your morning timing clearer. For details on Acıbadem, see this article.
- Gather your documents: Put your passport, appointment details and any documents your doctor has asked you to bring in one folder.
- Read the hospital's instructions: If you need to prepare for the appointment, for example if you need to come fasting, find out from the hospital or your doctor and follow what they say.
- Set an alarm: Set your departure time by adding your own buffer for registration and waiting at the hospital to the walking time.
Sample timetable for appointment day
The timetable below is an example for someone with a morning appointment who is returning home the same day. Adjust it to your own appointment time.
| Time | What to do |
|---|---|
| Before the appointment | Leave the apartment with time for the walk and registration |
| Appointment and procedures | At the hospital |
| If there is a long gap | Return to the apartment to rest; the hospital is within walking distance |
| 11:00 | Check-out time; ask in advance if you need a late check-out |
| Afternoon | Return journey |
If there are several days between tests and results
Sometimes a test is on one day and the results consultation is several days later. Whether it makes more sense to go home and come back or stay in Istanbul depends on your travel time and the patient's condition:
| Situation | Usually more practical |
|---|---|
| Your city is far and the journey is tiring | Stay in between; use your own kitchen to make the days easier |
| Your city is close and the journey is short | Go home and come back on the results day |
| The results day is not yet fixed | Start with a short stay and extend once the date is clear |
Ask your doctor whether the patient can travel during this interval. Extensions depend on availability, so let us know as soon as you decide.
If check-out clashes with the appointment
Check-out is at 11:00. If your appointment is in the morning and procedures may run into the afternoon, you have three options:
- Ask for a late check-out: It depends on availability, so ask when you book.
- Stay one more night: This is more comfortable when the result will come the next day. Ask your doctor whether it is suitable to travel the same day after the procedure.
- Check out early in the morning: Prepare your luggage and check out before you go to the appointment. Keep in mind that you may need to carry your luggage with you; ask about the options in advance.
For return travel, you can find bus terminal and airport options in our transport guide.

Common questions
How many days before a morning appointment should I arrive?
If you are coming from out of town, arriving one day before is usually enough. For test and check-up schedules lasting more than one day, plan a stay that covers all the days you need to be at the hospital.
Can I have a late check-out on appointment day?
Late check-out depends on availability and must be requested in advance. If you tell us your appointment time when you book, we can go through the options together.
